If you're looking to upgrade your bedside setup and keep your devices charged without compromising on style or space, I have the perfect solution for you.

I recently updated my bedroom to a new bed frame, nightstands and bedside wall sconces. I knew that access to the wall outlet and bulky charging blocks have always been an issue and I didn’t want a tabletop charging station taking up precious nightstand real estate.

The options for nightstands with outlets are also slim and honestly, they are more expensive. With the ever changing technology and charging requirements - from USB-A to micro USB.  I didn’t want to invest in a furniture piece that will have outdated features in a few years. That is not so sustainable, isn't it?

The solution? Adding a powerstrip to a nightstand - ANY nightstand of your liking and convert it to have a built-in charging station.

In this blog post, I'll walk you through the steps of how you can convert any nightstand to a bedside table with an outlet or charging station. There’s also a video at the end of this blog if you prefer to watch how I did it. I promise, it’s simple and super easy!

What You’ll Need:

1 | Nightstand of Your Choice

2 | Power Strip with a Flat Head

3 | Mounting Tape

4 | Scissors

Step 1: Prep the Nightstand

Start by thoroughly cleaning and dusting the surface, focusing on the area where you plan to attach the power strip. If you use a furniture cleaner, make sure that the surface is completely dry before proceeding.

Take a moment to think about which part of the nightstand would be most convenient and practical for attaching the power strip. Once you've decided on the ideal location, you can move forward with the installation process.

Step 2: Mount the Power Strip

When selecting a power strip for your nightstand, consider a low-profile, rectangular option with both regular outlets and USB ports. Choose a power strip with a flat head plug that connects directly to your wall outlet to ensure a flush fit against the wall.

To install the power strip, cut pieces of mounting tape long enough to cover its entire length. Then, stick the power strip to your nightstand, whether it's closer to the bed or in the middle. The strategic placement makes sure that the outlets and USB ports are within reach whenever you need to charge your devices.

Step 3: Wait and Let the Adhesive Stick

Give the adhesive some time to work its magic – let it bond for a good 15-20 minutes before you start plugging in your charging blocks. This time allows the adhesive to create a strong, reliable hold that will keep your power strip securely in place, no matter how many devices you need to charge up.

There you go! I told you it would be a piece of cake.

By transforming your bedside table into a nightstand with a built-in charging station, you'll bid farewell to unsightly clutter and hello to a sleek, organized space.

Not only will you have the power to charge multiple devices simultaneously, but you'll also be future-proofing your setup. When USB technology inevitably evolves, you can simply upgrade your charging station without having to replace your entire nightstand. How's that for a smart investment?
